Last March 20, 2021, Brokenshire College Toril aired the last episode of its BCT Wellness Webinar Series with the theme: "Forward and Beyond: Envisioning Life After School" with BCT's OSA head, Riomey A. Marata, invited as the lead speaker to share her story, and talk about shaping wise career paths.
Mrs. Riomey A. Marata has inspired us by sharing her story about her struggles and failures. She wanted a computer-related job but considering her financial situation and the difficulty of her preferred career, she opted to be a teacher instead. She had a rough start, as she failed her first licensure exam all while struggling to adjust because she didn't even want that career in the first place. However, she did not let that failure and doubt keep her from pursuing her chosen career, and that determination has helped her become the successful person she is today.
Mrs. Marata provided us with 7 steps on how to choose a career: (1) perform a self-assessment, (2) identify your must-haves, (3) make a list of jobs to explore, (4) research and narrow down your list, (5) get training and update your resume, (6) find and apply for jobs, and (7) continue growing and learning. She also left a lot of things for the students to ponder.
It was truly a wonderful end to the BCT Wellness Webinar Series, and it would not have been possible without the speaker, Riomey A. Marata, the BCT Wellness Team, and the rest of the BCT community. It was amazing from the first episode down to the last episode. What a great privilege it was to be able to take part in this fun and educational series!
