History
Brokenshire College Toril is the fruit of the labors, commitment and dedication of people whose noble intention is to carry on the ministry of the United Church of Christ through quality education. The year 2003 marked the foundation year of the institution when on May 12, 2003, the Boards of trustees of Brokenshire College and Toril UCCP Learning Center Inc. (TULCI) agreed to continue the educational venture in the Toril community through Brokenshire College Toril. The agreement was made to ensure that the educational venture would remain within and a part of the educational ministry of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP).
The board of trustees of Brokenshire College tasked Rev. Ermelinda B. Villegas to manage the Toril Campus while the registration of a new school under the Brokenshire College system was being processed. Rev. Villegas sought reforms and furthered the development of the Lubogan campus. She was later appointed as the first Chief Executive Officer of Brokenshire CollegeToril Davao City, Inc. Her service officially started in the SY 2003-2004. On July 31, 2003, Brokenshire College Toril was officially registered under the Securities and Exchange Commission as a non-stock and non-profit organization.
In the school year 2004-2005, the Toril campus was officially renamed as “Brokenshire College Toril, Davao City Inc”. Brokenshire College Toril, Davao City Inc. became an extension Campus of the BS Nursing program, Information Technology and Bachelor in Elementary Education of Brokenshire College (Main Campus) from June 2004 until 2012. Furthermore, Brokenshire College Toril in partnership with Broadlink @ IRC performed the leg working and marketing for the Computer Literacy Program of the school. This course covers only fifteen Sunday sessions on Basic Computer Operations and Applications. The first batch of the program had produced 99 students who received their certificates of completion during the culmination on November 30, 2008. Although a young member of the education industry, BCT had undergone a process of upgrading its quality in terms of education and services to its stakeholders in 2013. The school was visited and inspected by the members of the Association of Christian School Colleges and Universities—Accrediting Agency Inc. in February 2013. The purpose of the initial accreditation was to assess school’s standards of processes and operations. BCT then received commendation for being one of the youngest educational institutions to pursue accreditation. On March 21, 2013, the groundbreaking of the chapel happened with the faculty and staff, students and board of trustees as witnesses. The need to build the chapel was successfully responded to since Brokenshire College Toril is a Christian-imbued institution. By the SY 2014-2015, BCT was under the management of a new directress Rev. Hidita C. Villas.
In February 2015, BCT was revisited and inspected by the members of the Association of Christian School Colleges and Universities—Accrediting Agency Inc. And finally, on April 24, 2015, ACSCU-AAI awarded Brokenshire College Toril with LEVEL 1 Accreditation. In the same year, the school continued its progress. It continued to offer programs in Pre-School, Elementary, High School, Computer Literacy Program and Caregiving course under the leadership of the School Principal – Mr. Enrico Abo. In sync with the national implementation of the Senior High School program, the school established its SHS department in SY 2016-2017 offering academic (ABM, HUMSS, STEM) and technical vocational livelihood tracks. The school has since been one of the educational institutions in Toril with most number of SHS students. The SY 2017-2018 marked another significant layer in the school’s culture of excellence as ACSCU-ACI, after re-visitation to and re-assessment of the school’s operations, upgraded its accreditation status to level 2 – a rare feat for an institution below 20 years old. It was also in the same school year when the Research office was re-established.
Today, Brokenshire College Toril, Davao City, Inc. remains steadfast in its mission to become a premier institution by delivering quality 21st-century education grounded in Christian values—faith, service, servant leadership, and responsible stewardship. Offering programs from Pre-School to Senior High School, the institution continues to grow and thrive under the new leadership of the School Director (OIC), Mrs. Rechie Henny Magpayo, who officially assumed the position on July 17, 2025, succeeding Mrs. Cherrie N. Paniamogan, whose term of service concluded on the same day.
